it’s not so much north or south that confuses

i’ve long since let go of that

need to know

what discomfits now

is this seeming loss of depth

perception, adrift as I am

in this darkness.

could it be that I’m swimming beneath

what once felt so richly teeming

that no light penetrates now

to illumine, I’ve heard it said on this journey

that this deepening path leads to no thing

no other, no separation

but I long for some thing perhaps

to brush against me in the night…..

or perhaps it is true

that i have simply been pushed to the surface

again and again, as if

by some great school, convinced

that I need to learn

how to swim

and to breathe

at once.
