to gather your darkness

i want to gather your darkness into my arms

cradle the face of your shame,

i want to tender your ravaged face in my hands

kiss the scars from the flames

of the fire you wakened to find yourself in

burning, blistering, blaze

despoiling the image perceived in your glass

disengaged faraway gaze

scorching fingers licking at you

tongue of the dog pleading

beseeching you to waken from sleep

seeking to heal

the bleeding

is that why you lay down in the fire?

was the tongue of the flame

the ointment my body required

on that day when you gathered my numbness into your arms

and bore me out of my pain.
