saints dancing at my seeing

saints dancing at my seeing
(or ‘st francis of assisi’ up close and personal)

i’m not gonna wear this!
no more.
so here is your coat
and here is your hat
and your shoes
take back your shirt
take back your skirt
take back these underclothes too

and while i am at it
here is the name
the one that you christened me with

i don’t want to wear it!
no more

truly i hope that these things
keep you warm
for they rightfully belong to you

its just that they fit me
no more

and they’d come unraveled
in the places they were binding me

but oh!
what a surprising discovery!
to stand here
stripped naked of you

i don’t need to wear you!
no more
