shock of blue

A shock of blue

Against the grey

startles me awake

As if dreariness is irrelevant

To birds

A spark of laughter

ignites into song

and off they flit about the withered brown

Incapable of hiding in its backdrop

I wonder

If the tapestry were lush

Would I notice such diminutive beauty

Condensed into this moment

At my window

When the colors of the world

Have drained away

to concentrate

upon this shock of blue
